Our bodies depend on food for fuel and all the building blocks our bodies need to rebuilt itself daily and repair itself when under assault from infection or injury. Sadly, there are so many ways our food provides less than we need and too much of what we don’t need that it’s a wonder we’re not all sicker than we are. Here’s a sampling:
- Pollutants (herbicides, pesticides, environmental pollution)
- Less nutrition due to depleted soils
- Contaminants due to poor FDA and USDA oversight
- Loss of valuable nutrients due to food processing to extend shelf life (e.g., lifeless white flour and sugar)
- Additional of harmful substances during food processing — e.g., MSG, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), many more, especially those depending on individual sensitivity. Note: See my resource page on HFCS.
- Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs, aka: Frankenfoods). I have a resource page on GMOs which should also be considered part of this discussion.
